Why do runners keep coming back to do the Fisherman’s Friend StrongmanRun? Apart from the physical challenge is it perhaps the lure of its scenic locations which can only be described in superlative terms.
For 2016 we met in Paarl, a town just outside of Cape Town full of rich history and splendor. Home to some of the most world renowned wine farms in Southern Africa. Surrounded by these sloping vineyards stands a monumental geographical formation, the largest recorded mass of Granite, Paarl Rock. And how’s this for epic, your track is around this giant.
You start your race at Faure Stadium, passing spectators cheering you on up the hill towards Paarl Rock. One is left breathless by the magnificent beauty of the area. Natural obstacles, rock formations, gushing water from the Berg river and some views that would stun an eagle. You will carve your way through rock forms which give birth to tranquil freshwater pools and crystal clear streams. Winding down the hill enjoying the fresh air and nature with its diverse flora, fragrant fynbos. Then past the Taal Monument and through the obstacle-ridden farm land.
